Alsterån flows through the deep and green woods of Småland an idyllic place for fishing in the heart of Glasriket.
15 km of the stream is included in “Stream fishing Alsterån” and all of this is in undeveloped wilderness. There is a natural stock of brown trout, which is reinforced each year when more brown trout is put out. The stream has been divided into fishing zones for both skilled fly-fishing as well as more easily accessible fishing for families. The guests stay at Vidingegård Pensionat with 17 rooms and 38 beds. The distance from Vidingegård and Fishing Center to the best fishing places is a couple of km. The accommodation is flexible to suit both groups of friends interested in fishing, families on holidays as well as companies for conferences.

FISHING WATERS

Alsterån is like a string of pearls in Glasriket. The 15 km long stretch varies between calm flowing parts with marshy water meadows and dams to more running parts. Within the community of Uppvidinge there are, apart from Alsterån, 230 lakes with streams and creeks and many are available for fishing.

FISH

The natural stock of brown trout in the stream is supported through environment protection and new spawn places. In some parts of the stream there are also pike, perch, bream, tench and roach as well as crayfish.

FISHING

The fishing season is from April - September.
In the running waters we recommend that you use streamers in the spring and autumn and dry flies in the summer. In the calm waters it is best to use spinners. Perch, bream, tench and roach are easiest caught with an angling rod.
There are two places with large piers designed to suit disabled people with parking right by the water. There are many places with toilets, barbecues and windbreaks.

THE FISHING AREA

Zone 1 Alsterforsdammen
Length 700 metres. Bait casting and fly-fishing. Angling allowed. Max. two salmon trout per dayfishing-permit. Float tubes allowed.

Zone 2 Alsterfors - Åbron
Length 4000 metres. Bait casting and fly-fishing. Max. one salmon trout per dayfishing-permit.

Zone 3 Åbron - Höneströmsdammen
Length 3000 metres. Bait casting and fly-fishing. Max. one salmon trout per dayfishing-permit. Accessible for people with disabilities.

Zone 4 Höneströmsdammen-Åmaden
Length 4400 metres. Bait casting and fly-fishing. Angling allowed. Max. two salmon trout per dayfishing-permit. Float tubes allowed. Accessible for people with disabilities. Boats for hire.

Åmaden - Madvägsbron
Length 2000 metres. Only "Catch & Release" fly-fishing with a barbless hook. Allowed to keep two salmon trout in downstream zones (1-4). This zone has got a couple of nice rapids. The deepest part is in the middle of the zone.

Zone 6 Madvägsbron - Skahus
Length 1400 metres. The first 300 metres are calm. After that there is a part where there are some rapids. Only "Catch & Release" fly-fishing wiht a barbless hook. Allowed to keep two salmon trout in downstream zones (1-4).

Fly-fishing is allowed in all zones. Zone 5 and 6 are especially intended for Catch & Release fly-fishing with barbless hook. You may keep an unlimited amount of pikes and perches in all zones.

FISHING RULES

Alsterån has been divided into natural fishing zones.You can buy fishing permits at Alsteråns Fishing Center at Vidingegård Pensionat any time of the day.
There are different rules for different parts of the stream. In half of the stream you may only fly-fish with hooks without barbs and Catch&Release for brown trout. In other parts of the stream spin fishing is allowed and in some zones floating ring and boats are allowed.

•All fishing done at your own risk

•Only one rod per fishing permit

•The minimum size for salmon trouts is 40 centimetres (16 inches). Salmon trout under this size must be released back into the water.

With a 4-hours fishingpermit you can keep 1 salmon trout. With a oneday fishingpermit you can keep max 2 salmon trouts. (you are allowed to take 2 salmon trouts from zon 1+4 OR 1salmon trout in zon 2/3 and 1 in zon 1/4) You may keep unlimited amount of pikes and perches.

•Coarseangle allowed in the zones 1&4

•Only flyfishing (barbless hook) “Catch&Release” in the zones 5&6

•The fishing-permit should be worn visibly and shown on request of the area-supervisor. The fishing-permit is not transferable with other people. Please obtain updated rules of the fishing-zones.

•Some fishing-tools are only allowed in certain fishing-zones. Please obtain updated rules about the permitted fishing-tools and other information.

•The area-supervisor is responsible for the fishingzones and their instructions must be respected and followed. Guests that do not follow the instructions or show consideration to others can be suspended from fishing in Strömfiske Alsterån.

•Fish sportsman-like. Happy fishing!

BOATS AND TACKLE

There are 1 boat for 2 people, at Höneströmsdammen. Life jackets are included in the rent. Fishing tackle can be rented or bought. Angling and nature guides can show the stream, the nature, the best fishing places and assist with the fishing. The guides speak Swedish, Danish, German and English and can be booked per hour or per day.

ACCOMMODATION

Vidingegård Pensionat has 17 rooms and conference facilities. During the fishing season the restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch (packed lunches).
Several rooms can easily be converted into a flat for self-catering accommodation or to youth hostel with a more "compact living". Vidingegård is designed to suit anglers with possibilities of gutting and freezing the fish and with kitchen and barbecue for cooking.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

The surroundings: Alsterån is surrounded by a unique floral splendour and untouched forests that gives you a sense of wilderness. There are several hiking trails and nature reserves to visit. The area is also cultural historically interesting with many buildings from old industrial- and farmer societies. With its position, in the Kingdom of Glass, Alsterån is surrounded by many glass works.

We arrange courses in fly-fishing technique.

Vidingegård Pensionat is located in the middle of Smålands "Glasriket" -the Kingdom of Glass- and 60 km from Växjö with the Emigrants´ Museum and other places worth visiting.

Fiskecenter provides Strömfiske Alsterån's guests with information and service. At Fiskecenter you can also:
